Earth Angels is the name I give to social entrepreneurs. They see a social need and do something about it. Some people make it happen, some people watch it happen, some people say what the f*** happened! We can all get on our soapboxes with monotonous regularity and pontificate and articulately spout about community and society. The question is do we do anything about it? Do you do anything about it?

World Change Agents
Change one life, change the future. That’s my motto for World Change Agents. World Change Agents was set up following the deaths of young Kiyam Prince, Alex Walker, Damilola Taylor, Stephen Lawrence, Jonathon Ap Rhys Price. They were all young people with hugely promising futures and had those futures snuffed out so horrifically.

I’m a lake district lass living in Suffolk. On the BBC just this week the real-life drama ’5 Daughters’, set in Suffolk, is showing to an audience of millions. The dreadful murders of 5 pretty young girls whose lives were also filled with promise and potential were murdered as they worked in the shadowlands of prostitution.

The High Road or The Woe Road
No-one aspires to be a prostitute, a drug addict, a mugger, a murderer. Somewhere on their yellow brick road through life they made some bad choices, came to a turning point, and found themselves on a woe road on which they just couldn’t quite see the exit route to get them back home to themselves.

We can all sit back and say that it has nothing to do with us. But it has. We all live in the same world, we all live in communities, and our children, and in my case my grandchildren, walk in the same streets. Our communities have plenty of disenfranchised and disengaged young people that we can re-engage with integrity, warmth and genuineness. And those young people, and our children and grandchildren, and those of others in our community, will live with the positive consequences of that right action.

Some of the young people I’ve worked with through World Change Agents have had difficult lives. I wonder how we would have turned out had we had the same backgrounds and experiences.

The Russian psychologist Vygotsky talked about ‘the social transmission of knowledge’, but just what transmission of knowledge was going on in the home of Robert Thompson and John Venables who murdered the gorgeous little Jamie Bulger? We can help, you can help.

Change One Life, Change the Future
It was Margaret Mead the great anthropologist who said ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’ Change one life, change the future. We can all do something in our communities, in our world, to make this a better world.

Finding Your North Star To Guide Your Social Enterprise
A question for you. What are your values? What is your vision, your dream, for a better world? What makes you angry? What are you passionate about? What’s your talent, what’s your gift, what is your contribution to this world? Where those things meet, you have the possibility of creating a social enterprise that will provide meaningful work to you and massive changes in this world of ours.

The Happiness Foundation
Last year I also set up The Happiness Foundation which receives funding from the NHS. I set it up to put a smile on a million faces. The two biggest mental health problems in the western world today are depression and anxiety. And I can do something about that. I know how to break the cycle of depression, and I know how to interrupt patterns, create better ones, and reactivate the peace circuitry in the brain and nervous system. It’s time to do some internal disarmament.

Mission Possible
Mission Possible! We are all agents of change. The question is what changes are you bringing about? What changes could you bring about? What changes would light your fire, surge the yeehaaa factor in your life? What changes would you fund if only you could? Now find the funding for that, and there’s plenty of it out there.

Dream big! The future beckons us forth with its powerful potentiality, magic and miracles. Dream big! And think of the ripples and echoes that can cascade not only across your community, but across this world, and ever onwards down the future generations. Change one life, change the future!
